Using a Template

Preview & Customise

When you find a template that suits your needs:

  1. Click the Preview & Customise button on the template card
  2. The template will open in the Template Builder
  3. Review the sections and fields
  4. Make any necessary customisations:
    • Add or remove sections
    • Modify field labels
    • Adjust inspection points
    • Update agreement or terms
  5. Click Save to add the template to your account
Templates are copied to your account when you save them, so you can customise them without affecting the original catalogue template.

Starting from Scratch

If you prefer to build your own template, click the New Blank Template button in the page header. This opens an empty template in the Template Builder where you can build your template from the ground up using drag-and-drop fields.

Template Standards

Catalogue templates are designed to comply with relevant industry standards, including:

  • AS 4349.1:2007 - Building inspections
  • AS 4349.3:2010 - Timber pest inspections
  • AS/NZS 3000:2018 - Electrical installations
  • AS 1851 - Maintenance of fire protection systems
  • And other applicable Australian and New Zealand standards
Always review templates to ensure they meet your specific regulatory requirements and business needs. Standards and regulations may vary by state or territory.

Customising Templates

After selecting a template from the catalogue, you can customise it to suit your specific needs:

Add Custom Sections

Include additional areas specific to your inspections. For example, you might add sections for:

  • Local compliance requirements
  • Additional inspection areas
  • Client-specific checkpoints
  • Company-specific documentation

Modify Fields

Change labels, add new fields, or remove unnecessary ones. The Template Builder gives you complete control over every field in your template.

Update Agreement Text

Customise the inspection agreement to match your business terms and conditions. You can update the agreement text, terms and conditions, and any disclaimers.

Set Default Values

Pre-fill fields with common responses to speed up your inspection process. This is particularly useful for status fields and standard comments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I modify catalogue templates?

Yes! When you select a template from the catalogue, it's copied to your account where you can freely customise it. The original catalogue template remains unchanged.

Do changes to catalogue templates affect my saved templates?

No. Once you save a catalogue template, it becomes independent. Updates to the original catalogue template won't affect your customised version.

How often are new templates added?

New templates are regularly added as new inspection types and standards are developed. Check the catalogue periodically for new additions.

Can I share my custom templates?

Custom templates remain private to your account. If you'd like to contribute a template to the catalogue, please contact InspectEasy support.

What if I can't find the template I need?

If the catalogue doesn't have exactly what you need, you have several options:

  1. Choose the closest matching template and customise it to your needs
  2. Start with a blank template and build it yourself using the Template Builder
  3. Contact support to request a new template type be added to the catalogue
